Reliability and Test Engineering Internship

Varian Medical Systems was founded in Palo Alto, CA in 1948. They are one of the leading manufacturers of radiation delivery systems for the world's ongoing battle against cancer. Varian's medical devices include linear accelerators and software to deliver radiotherapy, radiosurgery, brachytherapy, and proton therapy treatments.

I joined the Hardware Verification team at the end of May 2021, the week after my last final exam at SFSU. I assisted the team in qualifying new Live View cameras for the next release of the Halcyon and TrueBeam radiation delivery systems. The cameras were put through radiation testing, shock/vibration, and thermal cycling and then tested to determine their functionality. I assisted in creating a test plan and designed fixtures to mount the devices under test to the test equipment in order to perform reliability testing using HALT and HTOL methods. Additionally, I was responsible for collecting data from the cameras before and after testing and using test scripts to quantify their functionality.
